Voting Theory

We will be finishing off the semester with a discussion of voting theory.  The notes and worksheets for this unit can be found on the right side of the blog.  There will only be paper homework for this last unit.  I will collect the first worksheet in class on Tuesday, April 17.

  1. In class on Tuesday I had no idea what the voting theory was. When Dr. McCune started explaining it, it sounded kind of interesting. I'm kind of interested in seeing how this unit will be.

  2. Voting theory isn't making sense to me. I am currently stuck on the homework and will be going to CAS to see if they can help me understand.

  3. Voting theory is frustrating. The different theories confuses me.

  4. Voting theory has been an easy unit for me to understand compared to the other units. In voting theory, we are using basic math skills not formulas. I find it interesting there are so many ways to decide a winner in an election. I also found it easy to understand the theories because they're simple.

  5. I had found voting theory to be hard at first but after watching some YouTube videos on it and looking at my notes it wasn't as hard for me. I didn't realize there was some many different voting theories.

  6. At the beginning of voting theory I was unable to attend class. But I started to look up some videos and started to figure out what to do.

  7. Voting theory was very interesting to me. I enjoy seeing how things relate to the real world because if not I tend to think it is unnecessary for me. But this one I could actually relate to because I will be having to fight against the system and make things change and I could use the theories presented in this unit to try to suggest different ways of voting and how one voting method isn't the most fair to a certain population. So I really enjoyed learning this material.

  8. Voting theory isn’t as bad as I thought. This particular lesson was sort of confusing at the beginning but after a while it seemed to be pretty easy. Even though there are a lot of different parts to voting, overall I think this would have to be one of the easiest lessons

  9. i think voting theory is one of the easiest things that weve done besides graph theory so hopefully i can show what i have learned. mostly i think the hardest thing is just to remenber how to do certain stuff on the fly without notes

  10. Voting theory has been one of my favorite subjects out of the whole semester. Its cool to see the different ways of calculating votes and i don't have to remember a bunch of equations.

  11. I found the article by the NY Times called "Maine Question 5 — Allow
Ranked-Choice Voting — Results: Approved" This article is interesting to me because it only shows the results of the voters, approximately how many people voted for yes and no, and the point count for each answer. This article also gives the full results of the elections in each town.
